Your Journey – the Care Journey
At the Foot & Leg Centre, we go through a number of steps in order to provide you with the best solution for your foot and leg pain.
Step 1: The Initial Consultation – Understanding Your Problem
When we initially meet, we get to know you. We identify your concerns, obtain relevant personal and medical history and previous treatments you have tried.
We complete a postural evaluation and hands-on testing of your joints. We may recommend you have x-rays taken. X-rays are the most accurate way to identify whether the bones of your feet have been displaced.
Step 2: The Report Visit
During this visit, the practitioner will explain what is causing your problem, explain the results of your x-rays (if applicable) and recommend a treatment plan for you. You will find out how long your treatment will take, how much it will cost and any questions will be answered. You may receive your first treatment on this visit also.
You are then armed with all of the information to make an informed decision about how to fix your problem, ensuring a long term solution.
Step 3: Your Treatment Begins – FMT & Corrective Exercises
This will involve following the treatment plan and includes both Foot Mobilisation Therapy and Corrective Exercises. Together these two treatments work to support your body’s optimal and natural restoration process. Every treatment session provides you with the benefits of:
- Increasing the bend and flex of joints (range of motion)
- Improving coordination and balance by stimulation the body’s proprioceptive (balancing) system.
- Developing the strength of the muscles that surround the joint by promoting nerve inputs that promote strength.
- Lessening pain communication to the brain by stimulating the joint and surrounding neurology.
You will also receive a tailored Corrective Exercise program, specific to your unique situation with detailed handouts and links to video demonstrations for each exercise to support your progress. Corrective Exercises help to stabilise the joints, increase muscle strength and improve the flexibility of the soft tissues (muscles, ligaments and tendons) in the feet and legs.
Step 4: Post-Therapy Review
We need to know how you and your body are responding to the treatment. For this reason, we routinely check on how things are going following therapy. Where applicable, before and after x-rays are examined to work out the level of structural correction that has occurred.
Step 5: Maintenance Care
Once the true cause of your problem has been corrected and your body is now functioning at its optimum, the practitioner will recommend a Maintenance Plan to you. Just like seeing a dentist to ensure your teeth and gums remain healthy, your practitioner will recommend a Maintenance Care Plan for you. This ensures your feet and legs remain in an optimal condition, supporting your body through the activities you love to do!
